Chaos
« on: October 04, 2011, 11:36:25 PM »
Hello.

I have been looking into an alternative list for the Chaos army.
Digged out all old WH Chaos books owned and tried to translate most units into WM stats. (Hellcannon, Chaos Giant, Marauder Chieftain etc)
Also added a unit and a character that i miss. (Chaos War Mammoth, BSB)

Does anyone know if this has been done before? By who?

Albion might be something to look into or Dogs of War. Beyond that, not that I know of.

Well, not one list containing all your wished troops but part of.
Maybe you do know about the Warmaster Trial Armies file at the Warmuster site. There you'll find the Norse, Chaos Dwarfs or Albion armies - all containing some of your units...

WARMASTER
Small models
Great Game!

How about a cult of slaanesh list?
Has some added flavour to theme.
Got to say Chaos Dwarves are great fun to play ;)

Check out the Trial Armies document.  I don't know if you've seen the Daemon Army list -- it might give you some ideas.

The Trial Armies document has Chaos Dwarves, Beastmen, and maybe others you would be interested in.

Good luck!

Thanks for all input.

The units i have been looking at is:
(both new and adjusted/changed)

Chariots. One Warrior Chariot and one Marauder Chariot. This inspired from the Realms of Chaos box from 97.

Chaos Spawn. It is way to overpowered as it is, if comparing with all versions in WH books.

Chaos War Mammoth. Always has been fascinated by this one. Anyone who has seen the Forgeworld model should be.  :P
Looked at Norse Mammoth and Stegadon for stats.

Hellcannon. A monster unit with rock-lobba ability in latest WH Chaos Warrior and Storm of Chaos. Sneak looked at Chaos Dwarfs Earthshaker for this one.

Chaos Giant. Another fascination. Used OnG Giant as model.

Characters. All inspired from most WH Chaos lists.
The general should be able to be a Sorcerer Lord. An upgrade.
Battle Standard Bearer, every army should be able to have one as an upgrade for a hero. No rules have been playtested yet.
Marauder Chieftain, a hero with Ld 7.
Two different sorcerers, a Master Sorcerer with Ld8 and a Sorcerer with Ld7.
Warshrine as an upgrade. No ideas for special rules yet.

Character Mounts. Inspiration as for the characters.
Chimera, Manticore, Chariot. Change the Dragon to have two heads, which is standard for WH Chaos Dragons.

Besides these, there are some units that needed some changes to more resemble the WH versions.
The Spawn was the one that differed the most.

Thoughts?  :)

Why do you feel the need to change things to resemble the Warhammer versions? It's Chaos, there's no one standard Spawn or Dragon, there's bound to be more powerful Spawn than those in the Warhammer army list, and dragons with a single head, etc.

I think you'd be better off just picking and choosing from units that already exist in other army lists. Like the Orc and Goblin Giant for the Chaos one, the Steggadon or Tuska for the War Mammoth, Rock Lobba or something similar for the Cannon, and so on.

Yes, good question/thought.

Well, i like to have the illusion that WM is the "smaller modell with the bigger battles"-version of the other game, not a different game.
So, therefore it would be nice to se how a WH-Chaos-list could look like and how it will behave in-game.
Also the somewhat categoric rules for some units i find interseting to explore/change. (chariots, dragons, ogres, trolls, etc)

Btw, forgot all about Marks above. How could they interact/give advantages with appropiate and balanced effect.

I was planing on making 'marked' units which would each count as having one of the various magic banners available. It seems like a simple but effective way to show the differences

Thats a way to go.
My idea was upgrades with only minor effects. Both positive and negative.
T.ex. Khorne - +1A per stand when charging, must charge when enemy is within initative range. (to represent frenzy)
