I'm not at all astonished. It usually go for 100$ approx for years. But he is rarely seen on ebay so prices can go up suddenly.

Probably one of the rarest of the Alternative units. Comparable to savage orcs.

Yeah, it was clearly a top top notch fig. We discussed the case on the CCM mailing list and the winner was really happy to have it ;)

Epic prices have never growed like other OOP range did.

I think there are sellers who would love to make it more interesting for them. They probably set prices high, hoping that the rest of the sellers will do the same, and to begin a big move of prices up, forcing people to buy them at the price they want.

It could work if a sufficient number of sellers do that.

Some ranges, like Epic Tau, have already jumped few years ago.

I think there's too much old Epic floating around as compared to the other Specialist Games for that to work. Too many potential sellers.

The rise of plenty of 6mm epic proxy lines has really shot any chance of that really working well. Want a Leman Russ? Go nab a Vanguard Centurion tank. Need Catachan infantry? Go hit up Trolls Jungle fighters. yada yada yada
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

Totaly agreed. Anyway, some sellers keep trying to up prices... And probably some people wanting original GW stuff are ready to pay higher prices for a Leman Russ than the price of a Vanguard Centurion Tank.

I think the sellers don't understand what makes a valuable epic lot. A single 15 pound tank is insane, because you usually want ~10. No one is going to drop 150 pounds on a single, common Epic formation. The situation isn't helped for the sellers by the way Epic has changed over time- for example, I've seen people try and sell a Manticore blister for an absurd amount- but that's 2 models. You need at least 3- so the blister has very little value, except to a rare few people.
Warmaster prices can rise higher more easily since a blister pack is a full, useful unit.

If I recall correctly, the only thing in there is cardboard and an instruction manual.  no real useful markers or cards and no models at all.  :/
