Anyone here seen Unknown? The new one that is, the older one is pretty poor. Great movie for unexpected developments. Even when I was pretty certain I knew what was going on, it still managed to pull the carpet out from under me.

Unknown, that's the one with Liam Neeson where he loses his memory right? My wife and I saw that one on DVD, it was pretty good.

I recently watched a pair of 80's Barbarian movies.

Deathstalker and Barbarian Queen

Both were produced by Roger Corman a man who has only lost money on one movie in his life despite making hundreds because he relentlessly controls the budgets and makes ample use of poorly paid locals, reuses film, stock footage, cheap SFX, and unqualified actors.  So that tells you what to expect from these movies.

They were a bit too misogynistic and exploitative for my tastes.  However, they must have found an audience as Deathstalker had 4 sequels and Barbarian Queen has 1.  Who knew!  I still prefer Ator:The Fighting Eagle.

That bring me good memories...  :)  sword & sorcery & low budgets... they are fun to see. I haven't seen Ator, though. First Barbarian movie I saw as a child was The Beastmaster.

Yesterday I watched "A Walk with Love and Death", a good drama set in the peasant revolt of the 100 Years War in France.

Barbarian movies are often so cheesy it gets cool. If the original Barbarians with Arnold Schwarzenegger had that.

Saw After Earth, which was a let down primarly due Jaden Smith and the movie +1 (alt: Plus One) which was actually nifty in its setup, some slight flaws but still very entertaining.

Went to see Riddick with my Dad and it was OK - some awful teenage dialogue.

The problem is that it's basically 3 films:

1: Riddick is reduced from being the Marshal of the Necromongers to abandoned on a planet left for dead.  Has to figure out how to survive and get through an area filled with venomous animals.
2: Riddick is pursued by bounty hunters.  He tries to separate them to steal a ship and get off planet.
3: The plot retreads Pitch Black by having darkness / a storm bring out hordes of venomous animals.

Only the first and second one are interesting.  When Riddick is sneaking around and tricking people to survive it's interesting.  Everything else is a bit dull.

Just seen Into Darkness myself. Loved it! Tho apparently the ST "Hardcore" didn't...in fact they voted it the worst ST film ever!

I've even heard they included Galaxy Quest in the list for whatever reason.

Also just seen a wierd Japanese art-house horror called House. Take some brown acid before watching and you'll be fine ;D

It's not a movie, but isn't Breaking Bad like the most awesome TV show ever?

The Walking Dead. :D. And thats why AMC now has the power to demand 3 times what they did just a few years ago. From a lackluster "old" movie channel to some of the top shows in television with Mad Men, Breaking bad and TWD all setting records, including surpassing each other at times.

Still havent seen Into Darkness but The Great Gatsby was pretty miserable, even my wife didnt like it. I did vote in that star trek movies line up, they had Galaxy Quest because it was a trek spoof ??? Im guessing from the results I wasnt the only one to vote the new movie last since I havent seen it. Anything has to be better than The Motion Picture or The Final Frontier, or Generations... :P

hmm,

The Final Frontier is the worst in my opinion.

My Top Start Trek movies would look like this:
Best to Worst

Star Trek the Undiscovered Country
Star Trek the Future Begins
Star Trek First Contact
Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Nemesis
Star Trek the Wrath of Khan
Star Trek the Search for Spock
Star Trek Generations
Star Trek the Voyage Home
Star Trek the Motion Picture
Star Trek Insurrection
Star Trek the Final Frontier
