Armand’s machine powered space dockyard
« on: October 04, 2013, 02:20:26 PM »
Hello everyone, new poster here!

I have posted these pictures on tactical command, but I thought I might post them here too!

Since the demise of the BFG miniatures line, I’ve decided to try and sculpt some components and models that I could use to complete my fleets.

So, without further ado, here’s some results of my work! I hope you enjoy them! I apologize for the low quality of some pictures, but I only have my phone, an I’m not really good at photo editing…

Disclaimer: none of these ships are for sale!

First of all, the first escorts I sculpted: same hull, one armed with batteries, one with torpedoes and one with lance + batteries; they turned out a little "fat", but I sorta like that :D.

Secondly, a Strike Cruiser that is heavily inspired by the conversion bits designed by Vaaish and modeled by Mangozac (ok, I downright copied them, but Zac is not angry, he’s a great guy! :D).

I modeled different prow and turret weapons, so that all options are covered. In the pictures you can see one with a standard loadout and one with prow bombardment cannon.

Finally, there is my battlecruiser; I sort of got carried with it, and it turned out quite big, in fact if it had the third weapon deck it could easily pass for a battleship...

From the 3d model you see to the printed one, I changed the bridge (to keep with the cathedral style) and the batteries (because I like super plasma weapons!!)

Now it's ordnance time!

Lightning strike fighters, Caestus assault rams (with less detail, since I wanted to try printing with a cheaper material) and the helldrakes to be used as bombers.
Apologies for the picture quality, but they are tiny!

And lastly for the moment, I am proud to present to you my momentary crown jewel: a reinterpreted repulsive grand cruiser (now it is definitely grand!)...

I tried to keep the bridge very simple, to show that it is a very old ship, but I don't think it worked out very well...

The good thing is that I built the model so that most of the components can be used to build the Vengeance variants, too! I.e. the side plating is separate, and exactly as large as 2 imperial weapon bays!

Hope you like it!

I really LOVE that Despoiler!

By the way, what are the dimensions for your ordnance?

Holy Throne!
Every ship is beautiful in its own way. But the Repulsive Class is outstanding! (It was my favorite ship when i started bfg, and is till now). But the bridge of your version is a little bit to bulky.
Another point is: your pictures are sometimes too blury. Use a more neutral background (a sheet of white paper, indirect lighting).
But share more of your work with us. It looks very promising!

cheers, phil

Thank you everyone for the advice!

I wish I had a camera with a macro setting, I took all my pictures with my phone...

I'll try to ask a friend of mine to borrow his camera, and take some new pictures!

Malika: the heldrake has a wingspan of roughly 2cm, the Caestus (Caesti?) are 1 cm long, and the lightnings are 6mm wide, more or less!

The heldrake is bigger than what I originally wished, but that was the only way for me to make the visible trims on the armor plates!

Hi all!

I haven't managed to take some better pictures yet, I tried a white background with this next model, but the pictures came out too dark! Time to experiment some more with the backgrounds... Maybe the space mat that I use to play would look better?

Anyway, fresh from the painting table, my latest escort.
I didn't manage to get my hands on some falchions before they went OOP, so I tried to make my own version!

As an experiment, I've added to the exausts some engine flares that I modeled and printed; what do you guys think?
