I posted this over at tac coms, but this feels like home to me so I wanted to share it with you too. I hope you don't mind. This madness all started with BFG (thanks for all of the support here at the SG forums, and no worries “Da Squig Pack†still lives). So I’m being a good Git and building Da Boss dis fleet as you know. Then I meet this other Git and he starts talking about his Epic builds. Cool, I remember Epic. I owned (at one time) 2 big boxes of stuff, ummmmmmm titan legions and was it space marine? At any rate I remember looking at the minis and thinking shoot those are really small. Those boxes sat on my shelf for years until I gave them to me mom to sell on EBay. She got 60.00 a box! So I’m back and forth with this guy I now call my friend and he has this way from time to time of showing me epic stuff. Just a little here and a little there. So I’m building me Battleship and minding me own business (I’m a happy Git, you know building and smiling and talking to me self) when I get this email with some really cool Ork conversions my mate has built. I’m looking at the pictures and they are really cool. Then I can feel Da Boss over me shoulder, I can smell his hot foul breath on the back of me neck. I look back at him (never making direct eye contact of course and with a long smile I say “ Da Big Ship is look-in gut Boss?†He says one word to me in a deep grumbling tone………………….. “EPICCCCCKKK………….†So let’s just say Da Boss always gets what da boss wants!
So I start with da small stuff first. Now I’m a Blood Axe guy at heart. Been that way since I was chasing down squig bugs to fill me gut when I was still waste high to a snotling. So I have to wrap my mind around how am I going to tell me Blood Axe tell in Epic scale? Ahhhhhhhh I gotz dis idea and I think Da Boss will be happy. He best be, or It will be back da drops fer me!
Da Boss loves bush hats, so the plan is to give all of da runts one. I need to clean up the hat on the back right as it’s pretty messy. I’ve never played with this scale before (not that I’m much better at larger scale) so there is a learning curve.
I tried rolling the brim on this one. I have to say I was pretty happy wif it! I’m worried about putting paint down as man they are small………… (but you already know that better than me!)
And some more runts. Here is what I’m calling a boss grot. My hopes are to have them act as runt herders. As I said before I’ve never played and odds are I will end up playing friendly games anyway so I’m sure my boys wont mind.
Dang, I gots grots coming out of me ears! No 2 from the left sides hat looks a little funny. I tried making a press mold of the bush hats. It’s working pretty well, can you tell which ones I press molded, and which ones I scratch built? Oh and on the far right another Boss Grot and perhaps the one in the center. I’m not sure how many Grots I’m going to need, but I just can’t stop building them as they make me heart all warm and toasty..
And some more, I really like the Runt in da middle. The second from the lefts hat need work, That rolled brim did not come out as good. I contemplate doing it over, but at this scale I question if I’m just being a nut. I’ve got a lot of stuff to build, and I’m not sure how stuck to get. They look fine to the naked eye, but then when I see the pictures sometimes I need to sit on me hands. So I’m not sure.
