I appreciate the feedback, comments and opinions, and doubly appreciate that this has been kept civil and mature as a discussion, thank you. However, I am going to lock this now, not as a reflection to the comments here, but more as things have been said and I dont feel further discussion will make progress, and probably will tempt tempers more, and also since the original post was made and locked to avoid any backlash, etc.
At the end of the day, when you sell an item, the exchange is made at a level that we (as a seller) agree to, and beyond that point it is no longer 'your item'. There are many shades of grey (wait... no.... not THOSE shades of grey....), and I have dealt with situations in collectables many times (where it is termed 'scalping', people going into stores to buy up entire lines of collectables, thereby creating a shortage, and then selling on eBay to take advantage of this). I have seen items that I have passed on suddenly go up by 4x in price because an announcement was made two days later by a company, and I have benefitted unknowingly from the same situation.
Although I entirely understand the frustration when it feels that community goodwill has been misplaced, and deals are made because people want miniatures to go to a good home and for the development of the game and hobby, you can only reflect at the point of sale and realise that you were happy with the exchange at this point.
