Agreed!

A bit sad to see someone asking gaming communities all over the interwebz to sell Warmaster and then short time after put up tons of auctions on Ebay og rare stuff for extreme prices.
I really would love to buy some Warmaster Kislev, Araby, Bretonnia, Vampire Counts, Chaos demons ...

This happens with a lot of things (eg Lego exclusives, Nintendo Amiibos, etc).

The simple solution if you think a item is too expensive, don't buy it. After these items haven't been sold for sufficient time, they may be listed at a lower price. Keep on not buying them until the price drops to a reasonable level.

What we are talking about here is a hobby. It's not a life or death situation. So take the long view and wait.

Or buy commercially available proxies at MUCH more reasonable prices.

Don't encourage these people and they will eventually get the message. Or they'll be stuck with stuff they don't want that they can't sell. They lose. What's not to like?  ;)

Edit: Been checking my records. In the last 6-9 months, I've bought 16 Warmaster units/blisters via ebay - average price £7.33 ($11). Less than the final price GW were selling stuff at before they pulled the plug. Highest price was £13.20, lowest was £4. I'm happy with that but won't generally go much above £10 ($15), including postage.

There is stuff that tempts me but a lot of it is from the US. Adding the postage then makes it a deal breaker. I'll bide my time for the stuff I want.

You sell your stuff for the money you want for it and then you have no 'rights' to what happens to the product after you've sold it. IF, however you sell stuff for below the 'going rate' you can have a reasonable expectation (unenforceable of course) that this stuff is going to be played with, rather than sold on for a profit. If this happens you never sell any of your stuff to that individual again.

I would have been annoyed too if the same had happened to me as has happened to Lex.

It's the same as the forumware you get on the Epic forums.

It represents a huge amount of effort on the part of the person making it.  So selling it represents a kind of trust.  So seeing it go on eBay can be a bit frustrating.

I'm going to disagree with the general consensus here. I've never made a deal with Lex, but I've attempted to in the past and always found Lex was selling stuff at the normal going rates (never lower then the current prices on Ebay). For example he was selling his single units of Daemons for 50 Euros each which in my opinion is the going rate.

I don't have a problem with people trying to make money on Ebay lots of people aren't lucky enough to have good paying jobs and need things like this to supplement their income. If they buy low and sell high on items they will make some extra cash to make life easier on themselves.

I do have more of a problem with people casting up units and then selling them.

I just recently made a deal with Draccan where I traded him 3 Greater Daemons for 2 units of knights and a Winged nightmare. In my opinion this was a fair trade. It helped Draccan out as he needed the GD's and it reduced the amount of GD's I had and allowed me to sell the units he sent me for right around the same cost I would have listed the GD's for.

If people are lucky to come across rares etc in cheap lots then all the power to them if they want to turn those around and make some money.

Hi

First off every one has a right to sell things on Ebay for whatever price.

Secondly I was pleased with trading with ToM for those greater daemons as I wanted those. During the trade there was never ever any mention of him wanting to Ebay the things I sent but he did mentioning "needing" those. I probably would have made other suggestions than sending units I actually needed myself had I known. But again I sent 2 kislev knights, 2 bret. Knights and 1 winged nightmare and I can't complain. Everything was pleasant and as described.

Generally the only thing that bugs me is seeing someone posting all over gaming forums on the Internet saying how much he needs Warmaster to complete collections and then seeing him putting up dozens and dozens of auctions at really turned up prices. I wonder if everyone who sold or traded originally would be happy about that.
As I don't know all the facts this is more of a personal opinion than anything.

I appreciate the feedback, comments and opinions, and doubly appreciate that this has been kept civil and mature as a discussion, thank you. However, I am going to lock this now, not as a reflection to the comments here, but more as things have been said and I dont feel further discussion will make progress, and probably will tempt tempers more, and also since the original post was made and locked to avoid any backlash, etc.

At the end of the day, when you sell an item, the exchange is made at a level that we (as a seller) agree to, and beyond that point it is no longer 'your item'. There are many shades of grey (wait... no.... not THOSE shades of grey....), and I have dealt with situations in collectables many times (where it is termed 'scalping', people going into stores to buy up entire lines of collectables, thereby creating a shortage, and then selling on eBay to take advantage of this). I have seen items that I have passed on suddenly go up by 4x in price because an announcement was made two days later by a company, and I have benefitted unknowingly from the same situation.

Although I entirely understand the frustration when it feels that community goodwill has been misplaced, and deals are made because people want miniatures to go to a good home and for the development of the game and hobby, you can only reflect at the point of sale and realise that you were happy with the exchange at this point.
