Some pics
« on: August 26, 2016, 08:48:44 PM »
Played our first full pain battle, so I'd like to share some pics.
It was Undead vs. Dark elves. Undead got beaten, but the Necropolis was able to hold steadily through the whole game.

What represent Warmaster hydra? Black Fortress? Sea Dragon monster?

Beautiful paint.

Fantastic pictures :).  Thank you for sharing these.  I always like to see pictures of Man O'War battles.  It's the first time I've seen an Undead Fleet.  I didn't even realise that there was one.  Great to see them in action.

Thanx for comments.
Those hydras represent Death fortreses. The Undead fleed showed up in Citadel magazines. The models are my own humble creations.

I've seen you asking questions about the undead fleet on the sea of claws yahoo group, great to see it in action!  love the different unique models.

What game did you get the skull tokens from and what do they represent in the MOW game?
How did you make your MOW cards and spell cards and templates?  The often not talked about but really half of the physical game part  ;)

Yeah. As usual in MoW, the "later" stuff has some balance issues - particulary undead are too weak, especially against DE so we had to use some houserules.

The tokens are Wahrammer fantasy tokens once distributed by GW. But they are long gone - I got it through ebay few years ago. Some symbolise "immobilised" some "abandoned".
The cards and templates are all from Yahoo file section, printed, cut and put into that machine which wraps it into a plastic foil by heat.. don't know how is it called in English...
You are right.. you cannot play without it... the basic game box was about the templates and cards, not about ships..

its called, the Laminator!

I got one free from work as they replaced theirs under warranty and I got to take it home and clean off the garbage that wrapped itself around the rollers.  A long weekend project but a free laminator is a free laminator.  I have used the crap out of it for gaming stuff so I was excited to take it home no matter what.

The undead never did have official mini's.  They had a lot of magazine rules (Citadel Journal #6, 1994....Date?)thrown out there but as Aldhck says, kind of weak and needed some tuning but they were released so late that I don't think GW cared.  They just wanted to test the interest in the game after it started fluttering, my thoughts anyways.

In fact they tried to enhance the firstly published rules in CJ 6 by an update in CJ 9, but it was still unsufficient.
The main problem is the crew system. There are three types of "wizard". The better wizard you take the more crew you have... which might make sense at first glance but...   if you take a Toomb king, which costs 50pts, you can spend more poins on ships, but have not enought crew to man them...If you take Necromancer for 300pts and compulsory Necropolis for 250, you have 450 points left for the rest of your fleet.. Meanwhile Skullhammer squadron, which are small 3 crew ships that even cannot shoot - only ram, costs 250 points. And even then, you can mostly fill the crew slots only with zombies, which are -1 in boarding actions.

are zombies a TOTAL +0 to the boarding die roll just like chaos spawns?  Chaos spawn crew are described as a +1 as they are a crew and then a -1 as they are a mindless spawn, so a total of +0.  Really good for putting at the top of a pile and basically allowing a re-roll of the first boarding action you lose.

C. J., the exact wording is "-1 to roll when leading an attack", so I'm afraid it really is -1 :-)

When involved in a boarding action, you roll the dice, you adding the total number of crew counters in the stack plus any other modifiers for guns, etc., and you add special effects.
For Skaven Slaves "If a ship is crewed by Slaves it gets -1 to all boarding action dice rolls."
For Zombie "-1 to roll when leading an attack"

So when Zombie leading boarding action D6 + number of crew counter in the stack - 1
